December bible reading: the book of john

John.

The book of John gives us a different perspective than the other gospels of who Jesus was while on Earth. It helps us understand Jesus’ mission and purpose while he was on Earth. And it sets an example for us what it means to live as a disciple of Christ.

John was a fisherman along the Sea of Galilee. He was faithful to share the truth of Christ throughout his life. He was influential in the early church. He lived his life in submission to Christ, and shows us how to do the same.

John’s account of conversations he had with Jesus are foundational to living the Christian life.

The instruction laid out for us is very clear. Jesus’ position as the Son of God is one of authority and humility. We see the command for being fully committed to Christ while also seeing the need to show God’s love and grace to others.

My personal favorite part of John is chapter 14. Jesus tells us He is the way, the truth, and the life. He alone is the way to God the Father. And He is Truth, which means everything not from Him is a lie.

But then, Jesus goes on to say that there is a mansion being prepared for each of us. In Heaven!

How cool is that??

While trials in this life seem to crush us and seem to be more than we can bear, when we are through we will have a mansion waiting for us.

I have put together a calendar for the month of December if you would like to print it off and read through the book of John.

My prayer is you will see Jesus in a new light. He will reveal something about Himself that helps you know Him more. And then you will take that truth and live it out.
